Self-Control Is Overrated! Try This Instead

Last week in my Q Fit Mindset Group Coaching session, we talked about something you might find surprising…
👉 Self-control isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
A 2017 study found that people who rely heavily on self-control are less likely to achieve their goals than those who don’t.
Even more surprising, self-control was found to be unrelated to goal success.
So what does this mean for you?

Instead of focusing on resisting temptations, ask yourself:
What people, places, or emotions create those temptations?
By identifying those triggers, you can make small changes that reduce the need for self-control in the first place.
For example:
✅ Rearranging your kitchen to keep healthier snacks within reach
✅ Scheduling workouts during a time when you're less tempted to skip
✅ Setting boundaries with people who drain your energy
Sometimes, success isn’t about willpower. It’s about creating an environment that supports your goals.
What’s one small change you can make this week to set yourself up for success?
Focus Forward,
SQ
